Newly appointed police officials assigned to key units in Central Visayas have pledged closer coordination with the Cebu Provincial Government, reinforcing efforts to maintain peace and order seen as crucial to sustaining Cebu’s continuing growth and development.

The officials paid a courtesy call on Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro on Monday, May 18, where they committed to strengthening cooperation with the province in support of public safety initiatives.

Among those who met with the governor were Police Lieutenant Colonel (PLTCOL) Zyrus Michael Serrano of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), PLTCOL Leandro Gutierrez of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), and PLTCOL Rodel Ban-o of the Directorate for Intelligence (R2).

During the meeting, Gov. Baricuatro also renewed her commitment to facilitate the transfer of ownership of a Capitol-owned property along Gorordo Avenue in Cebu City to the Philippine National Police (PNP). The lot currently houses the CIDG-7 building.

Serrano said CIDG-7 plans to construct a new building on the site but has been unable to proceed after ownership of the property was questioned by the Capitol during the previous administration.

The 679-square-meter property had earlier been donated to the PNP during the administration of former Governor Hilario Davide III, but efforts were later initiated by the previous provincial administration to recover the lot.

Gov. Baricuatro, however, said the PNP should retain the property, noting that the move is part of the provincial government’s support for law enforcement agencies in carrying out their mandate more effectively.

“It’s actually a win-win situation for us,” the governor said during the meeting. “We always feel safer when you are there.”

The governor also shared her personal affinity with the police force, noting that her late father — whose birthday she commemorated that day — had served as a police officer and later as chief of security of former Governor Lito Osmeña in the late 1980s and early 1990s. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬, 𝒀𝑱𝑩
