Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro has moved to strengthen the province’s healthcare workforce by granting security of tenure to dozens of medical personnel — a move expected to improve workforce stability and help ensure sustained healthcare services in Capitol-run hospitals.

True to her campaign promise of improving Cebu’s provincial healthcare system, Gov. Baricuatro administered the oath of office to 85 hospital personnel under the provincial government.

Of the total number, 19 existing permanent employees received promotions, while 66 job-order workers were granted regular plantilla positions in the Capitol’s four provincial and 12 district hospitals.

The appointments include 27 doctors, among them three newly designated chiefs of hospitals assigned to the district hospitals of Badian, Barili, and Oslob.

The newly appointed doctors were distributed across various Capitol hospitals, namely:

Cebu Provincial Hospital (CPH)-Balamban – 8 doctors

CPH-Bogo – 7 doctors

Tuburan District Hospital – 2 doctors

Daanbantayan District Hospital – 2 doctors

Oslob District Hospital – 2 doctors

Badian District Hospital – 1 doctor

Barili District Hospital – 1 doctor

Mariano Jesus Cuenco Memorial Hospital in Malabuyoc – 1 doctor

Apart from the doctors, the new appointments also covered 15 nurses, one dentist, two midwives, one radiologic technologist, five medical technologists, five pharmacists, three nutritionists, two social welfare officers, and 24 support personnel, including administrative staff and drivers.

‘DOING THE RIGHT THING’

In her message, the governor expressed disappointment after learning that some of the personnel granted permanent positions had served for as long as 27 and 35 years without security of tenure.

“It’s really sad. I’m so glad nga before it’s too late, we did the right thing. And I think it is the right thing to do,” the governor said, adding that security of tenure gives dignity to the medical profession.

“I am sorry for what happened in the past, but I want to assure you that in this administration, it will not happen again,” she added. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝒀𝑱𝑩, 𝑭𝑬
