Heavy rains triggered a landslide along the Transcentral Highway in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban, Cebu on Saturday, May 16, but swift action from provincial and local officials led to the immediate reopening of the affected road section the same day.

Through the coordination of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and the local government of Balamban headed by Mayor Amos Edwin Cabahug, clearing operations were promptly carried out by the Department of Public Works and Highways – Cebu 3rd District Engineering Office shortly after the landslide occurred.

Authorities mobilized personnel and equipment to remove soil, rocks and debris that blocked a portion of the highway, a major route connecting Cebu City to western Cebu towns. The clearing teams worked non-stop to restore access to motorists and residents affected by the incident.

By the end of the day, officials declared the two-lane road section passable, preventing prolonged disruption along the Transcentral Highway.

Gov. Baricuatro lauded the immediate response of the engineering office and local officials, pointing out the importance of quick coordination during emergencies to ensure public safety and maintain road connectivity.

Gov. Baricuatro also reiterated her appreciation after a team of DPWH 7 led by Chief Legal, Atty. Brando Ray Raya, paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Capitol on Monday morning, May 18. 𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑪𝑶𝑵𝑻𝑹𝑰𝑩𝑼𝑻𝑬𝑫 𝑷𝑯𝑶𝑻𝑶𝑺
