The Cebu Provincial Government under the leadership of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro has concluded the third and final leg of its public consultations on the tax impact of the proposed 2027 Schedule of Market Values (SMV) for real property taxes.

The consultations were organized by the Provincial Assessor’s Office headed by Provincial Assessor Michelle Languido.

Despite varying opinions and concerns surrounding the proposed SMV, Capitol officials said the consultations aims to ensure that stakeholders, taxpayers and members of the business sector were given the opportunity to voice their concerns. The hearings also served as a venue for both the public and private sectors to discuss possible areas of consensus on one of the province’s key fiscal issues.

Gov. Baricuatro, together with Vice Gov. Glenn Anthony Soco; Provincial Board (PB) Member Mike Villamor, chair of the Committee on Ways and Means; Vice Chairperson PB Member Celestino Martinez III; 6th District PB Member Alfie Ouano; and Lone District of Mandaue PB Member Nilo Seno, attended the consultation held in Consolacion town on Wednesday day, May 13.

Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado, Vice Mayor Joannes Alegado as well as Ronda Mayor Chantili Ann Victoria Blanco, Boljoon Mayor Jojie Derama, and Tuburan Vice Mayor Danilo M. Diamante were also in attendance.

The governor, in her message, reiterated her administration’s commitment to participatory governance.

“Good governance starts with listening to the people,” she said.

Previous public consultations were held in the municipalities of San Fernando and Cordova.

Languido expressed her gratitude to the province’s 44 municipal assessors for their continued efforts in helping shape Cebu’s fiscal autonomy, as well as to the technical teams and personnel who worked extended hours, including weekends, to ensure that the proposed market values remain fair and reasonable for Cebuanos. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬
