Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro on Wednesday night thanked thousands of workers, volunteers, government employees, and private sector partners who helped ensure the successful hosting of the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cebu.

Speaking during an appreciation night for Cebu’s Organizing Committee, Gov. Baricuatro described the international gathering as a “resounding success” made possible through months of preparation and cooperation among various sectors.

“This success belongs to all of you,” Gov. Baricuatro said. “May this remind us that when Cebuano hearts work together, we can accomplish extraordinary things.”
Gov. Baricuatro recalled the long months of planning, inspections, rehearsals, and coordination leading to the summit, saying many people worked quietly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth staging of the event.
“Many people only saw the final outcome. They saw the beautiful venues, the organized events, the peaceful atmosphere, and the warm smiles that welcomed our guests,” Gov. Baricuatro said.
“But what they did not see were the sacrifices behind it all — the long hours, the constant coordination, the pressure to make everything work smoothly, and the exhaustion many carried while still choosing to give their best every single day,” she added.
She thanked the Cebuanos, provincial government department heads and employees, local government units in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Cordova town, as well as uniformed personnel, healthcare teams, emergency responders, tourism workers, performers, drivers, hotel and resort staff, food service providers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), utility workers, volunteers, and media partners.

Gov. Baricuatro also credited the success to the unity shown by different government offices, agencies, and sectors throughout the preparation and hosting of the summit.
“This successful hosting was never about one person or one office. It was the result of collective effort, teamwork, and genuine love for Cebu,” she said. “You reminded the world why Cebu is special not only because of our beautiful destinations, but because of our people.”
