The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) officially launched the Summer Grassroots Training Program today in the southern town of San Fernando and the northern municipality of Consolacion, signaling the start of a 10-day training camp aimed at discovering and developing young athletes in the province.

Leading the launching ceremonies were CPSC Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejaño, Executive Director Rodrigo Tanza and Commissioner Paul Jake Castillo, who were joined by municipal officials from San Fernando and Consolacion.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, in a message read by Tanza, said sports stand alongside health, education, and livelihood as pillars of youth development.

“Sports help shape disciplined, confident, healthy, and responsible young people,” Gov. Baricuatro said, affirming her full support for the initiative.
Aside from free training, the Cebu Provincial Government also turned over sports equipment, including arnis sticks, orange cones, volleyballs and volleyball nets.

San Fernando Mayor Mytha Canoy, meanwhile, urged participants to look beyond the physical drills.
“Kini usa ka programa nga moandam ninyo sa tinuod nga duwa—mao ang kinabuhi,” Canoy said. She stressed that the discipline instilled through sports is a vital tool in navigating future challenges.

In Consolacion, Mayor Teresa Pepito-Alegado expressed gratitude to the provincial government for the grassroots sports program, saying it would further develop and capacitate young athletes.
The event was also attended by Vice Mayor Joyjoy Alegado, SK Federation President Shella Carpina, Councilor Rex Pepito.and Councilor Fred Herrera.
The program caters to children aged 8 to 15 and initially offers coaching in arnis, basketball, and volleyball.
Training sessions begin on May 12 and will run until May 22, with organizers hoping the initiative will give young Cebuanos a productive summer while honing both athletic skills and character.
