Sometimes, progress begins with a shovel breaking earth. In Danao City, two recent groundbreakings marked the start of something bigger than construction—they marked a covenant.
Mayor Nito Durano described the two major infrastructure projects as a testament to Gov. Pamela Baricuatro’s commitment to ensuring that no Cebuano is left behind. While the bridge and the upgraded waterworks system are still taking shape, the commitment behind them is already standing tall.

“More than its literal purpose, this bridge shows the Capitol’s commitment to forging unity and collaboration,” the mayor said. “It represents the governor’s resolve to move forward toward holistic progress and development, to ensure that no Cebuano will be left behind.”
On Tuesday, the two projects broke ground, led by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and city officials.
For Gov. Baricuatro, the message embodies her people-centered style of governance, a reassurance to every resident that they are seen, heard, and walking this road together.

“Padayon lang gyud ta sa atong trabaho og hinumdumi nga ang Kagamhanan sa Lalawigan andam kanunay nga mosuporta kaninyo ug sa tanang mga Sugboanon,” Gov. Baricuatro said.

For the people of Barangays Guinacot and Taboc, the message is deeply personal.
When Typhoon Tino tore through northern Cebu last year, massive flooding ravaged the old Guinacot-Taboc footbridge that connected their communities, forcing residents, students, workers, and families onto longer, more difficult routes to reach schools, workplaces, and markets.
Set to span 42 meters in length and 8 meters in width, the concrete bridge will do more than restore a vital link.It will restore safety. It will offer an immeasurable safeguard against the potential loss of life. It’s infrastructure, yes. But it’s also a promise learned from hardship and built back stronger.

That same spirit of commitment guided the second groundbreaking, this one for the upgrading and improvement of the city’s existing waterworks system.
City officials knew that as households multiply and industries grow, so too does the demand. Standing still is not an option.
The improvements will include a new clarifier facility and an additional flocculation tank, ensuring the water treatment plant can operate continuously, even during heavy rains.
Part of the plan is the addition of two modular water tanks, each capable of holding 5,000 cubic meters, and the installation of underground pipelines to expand distribution to more barangays and industrial areas.

Infrastructure, at its best, is never just about building things. It’s about building belief in each other and in the idea that a better future is possible for everyone.
In Danao, that belief is not wishful thinking. It’s a plan set in motion, one shovel at a time. The work has just begun, but the direction is clear: forward, together, leaving no one behind.
