𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 — Two major infrastructure projects broke ground here on Tuesday, marking what local officials described as a decisive push for connectivity and service reliability under the shared vision of a “brighter Danao for the Danawanon Family.”

In back-to-back ceremonies on April 28, Mayor Nito Durano and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, along with Gov. Pamela Baricuatro led the groundbreaking rites for the Guinacot–Taboc Bridge and the improvement of the City Waterworks System, both funded by the Cebu Provincial Government.

The events drew city councilors, department heads, barangay officials, leaders of the Dayung group, and residents—a gathering that city hall called tangible proof of the strong partnership between the Capitol and the city government.

In his message, Mayor Nito described the projects as part of the local government’s continuing connectivity agenda—an effort to link communities, bring basic services closer to the people and strengthen them to directly respond to their needs, and open more opportunities for the Danawanon Family.

“Pinaagi sa suporta sa Probinsya sa Sugbo ubos sa liderato ni Gov. Pam, ug sa padayon nga panagtambayayong tali sa Dakbayan ug Probinsya, kining mga proyekto nagrepresentar sa panaghiusa, serbisyo ug komon nga paningkamot padulong sa kalambuan,” Mayor Nito said.

“Padayon ang panaghiusa. Padayon ang koneksyon. Padayon ang pagsidlak sa Danao, here and now,” the mayor added.

The 42-meter-long, 8-meter-wide Guinacot–Taboc Bridge will replace an old footbridge that was badly damaged when Typhoon Tino lashed the area.

Once completed, the concrete bridge is expected to restore a vital link between Barangay Guinacot and Barangay Taboc, providing safer and faster travel for residents going to schools, workplaces, markets and other destinations. City planners see it as a key piece in reinforcing Danao’s secondary road network.

The second project, the improvement of the Waterworks System, aims to boost the city’s capacity to deliver a reliable, sustainable water supply amid growing demand from both households and industries.

It involves the construction of a clarifier facility and an additional flocculation tank to keep the water treatment plant running even during heavy downpours.

Also in the pipeline are two modular water tanks with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each, as well as the laying of underground pipelines to expand water distribution to more barangays and industrial zones.

“Governor Pam, if you are the People’s Governor, then perhaps ours is the People’s Waterworks System. We pride ourselves on having one of the most affordable water rates per cubic meter in the province – at 50 pesos per 10 cubic meters of water – serving 17,000 households across the city,” the mayor said. /CAPITOL PIO, Photos by YJB, FE and Danao City Government Facebook page
