Officials of the Embassy of Sweden paid a courtesy visit to the Cebu Provincial Capitol on April 29 to gain deeper insight into the province’s government services and explore areas for cooperation, particularly in assisting Swedish nationals in the country and bolstering disaster efforts.

First Secretary Roya Ndure of the Embassy of Sweden underscored the importance of coordination during emergencies, saying they are in Cebu “to understand how we can work together if a natural disaster happens.” She likewise expressed interest in initiatives on waste segregation and energy use, as well as in identifying the province’s priority needs.
For her part, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro explained to Swedish officials the province’s new brand of public service and its disaster-response strategy, stressing that government personnel and officials must be immediately present on the ground to allay people’s fears and reassure communities that the provincial government is solidly behind them.

The governor added that the Capitol serves as the first line of support in providing additional resources to local government units.
Alongside her emphasis on disaster response, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro also discussed the province’s long-term programs, informing the visitors that healthcare ranks among her administration’s top priorities.
Highlighting the need for efficiency, Honorary Consul of Sweden in Cebu Karl Mogens Alexander Hey agreed with the governor on having a complete system for disaster response, highlighting the importance of an integrated approach in implementing solutions.
Consular Officer Angela Tolentino also pointed out the value of preparedness, saying that “it’s good to have a solid plan.”
