Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro recognized sanitation inspectors as vital frontliners in protecting public health during the opening of the Sanitation Inspectors National Assembly held in Cebu on Tuesday, April 28.
Addressing sanitation inspectors, public health leaders, and delegates from across the country, Gov. Baricuatro thanked the participants for their often unseen but essential work in keeping communities safe and healthy.
“Because when our surroundings are clean, when our water is safe, when our communities are protected from disease… it is because of you,” the governor said.
Gov. Baricuatro also highlighted the critical role of sanitation inspectors during the series of disasters that affected Cebu last year, saying health risks such as contaminated water, poor sanitation, and disease outbreaks become more serious during calamities.
“And in those moments, sanitation inspectors became protectors of public health. You are among the first lines of defense of our communities,” she said.
The governor emphasized the importance of this year’s assembly theme, “The Sanitation Standards and Public Health in the Implementation of Universal Health Care,” adding that the Provincial Government of Cebu remains committed to strengthening healthcare systems not only through response efforts but also through prevention.
She added that the province continues to invest in hospitals, healthcare workers, and public health systems while recognizing that community-level health protection begins with sanitation and preventive measures.
“We will continue to support programs that promote safe, clean, and healthy communities across Cebu,” the governor said.
