Solo parents in Cebu Province were treated to a full day of activities specially curated for them as the Cebu Provincial Government kicked off the celebration of Solo Parents Week at the Cebu Capitol on Monday, April 20.

In line with the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, the provincial government, under the administration of Governor Pamela Baricuatro, officially relaunched Solo Parents Week after a six-year hiatus.
The initiative, organized in partnership with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), carries the theme: “Hindi ka Nag-iisa sa Iyong Pag-iisa: Yakap at Kalinga para sa Solo Parent.” It aims to recognize and celebrate the resilience, dedication, and sacrifices of solo parents who continue to serve as the foundation and guiding light of their families.

In attendance also during the kickoff celebration was 1st District Board Member Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya, Chair of the Committee on Women, Family and Children. In her message, she emphasized the importance of sustained support for solo parents and assured that the Provincial Board continues to craft and strengthen policies and programs that will uplift their welfare. She emphasized the need for inclusive governance—one that listens, understands, and responds to the real-life challenges faced by solo parents—ensuring they are not only recognized but also empowered in their communities.

The kickoff featured a series of engaging activities, including a poster-making contest highlighting parent-child pairs, a TikTok dance presentation and the Solo Parent Got Talent 2026, which showcased the creativity and talents of participating solo parents.
An educational forum was also conducted, focusing on financial literacy, budgeting, and entrepreneurship, led by Finance Analyst Jar R. and Bookkeeping Trainer Leah Ornopia.
