Officials and community leaders have begun preparations for a broader and more inclusive Pride celebration this year, following a planning meeting on April 9.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro met with the Cebu Provincial Youth Development Office, the Capitol’s Gender and Development Office, and the Cebu Pride Movement core team and leads to outline initial plans.

More than 30 LGBTQIA+ leaders and representatives from Metro Cebu local government units, youth councils, schools and community organizations attended the meeting.
Organizers said the gathering marked an early step toward strengthening visibility, inclusion and community empowerment through this year’s Pride events.

Baricuatro recalled attending a Pride march in southern Cebu in the past that drew minimal participation, an experience she said shaped her goal of mounting a larger and more meaningful celebration across the province.
Now in office, she reiterated her commitment to programs that promote and protect LGBTQIA+ rights.

Among the initiatives she cited is the proposed establishment of a home for the aged, intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for elderly LGBTQIA+ individuals who may lack family support.
Representatives from Police Regional Office 7 and the 14th Civil-Military Operations Battalion also attended the meeting, expressing support for the event and for efforts to promote the welfare, safety and dignity of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Organizers said this year’s Cebu Pride celebration will be a collaborative effort involving government, civil society and community groups. A calendar of activities is expected to be released soon. /CAPITOL PIO
