Following a successful reproductive health drive in Danao City, the Cebu Provincial Government brought its surgical outreach to the island communities on Friday, offering free procedures to residents of Bantayan Island.
The mission, held at the Bantayan District Hospital, was mounted in partnership with the Department of Health–Central Visayas Center for Health Development, the Commission on Population and Development, DKT Philippines Foundation Inc. and the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines.
The one-day surgical mission successfully performed 23 Bilateral Tubal Ligations (BTL-MLLA) and four Non-Scalpel Vasectomies (NSV).
“Beyond the numbers, these represent informed choices, empowering individuals and couples to plan their families, protect maternal health, and build more stable households,” Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Catalan said.
Dr. Catalan explained the broader public health impact of bringing voluntary family planning services to far-flung areas, saying that increased access helps curb unintended pregnancies, lowers the risks of maternal and infant mortality, and eases the long-term strain on the province’s health and social welfare systems.
The health consultant extended gratitude to Bantayan’s District Hospital Chief Dr. Najarro and the entire hospital staff for their dedication to the mission.
The latest effort reflects the Cebu Provincial Government’s commitment to “consistent, equitable, and people-centered” health service delivery, ensuring that even residents of island and remote barangays receive the same quality of care as those on the mainland.
