At least 627 island residents received free medical care over the weekend as the Cebu Provincial Government brought a multi-specialty mission to the Camotes Island.

The initiative delivered a comprehensive range of services, including surgical procedures, ophthalmology, optometry, dental care, and HIV screening, underscoring the province’s commitment to ensuring that access to healthcare is not limited by geography.

“We are bringing quality healthcare closer to every Cebuano especially those in underserved areas,” Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan said.

More healthcare upgrades and medical missions are on the way, as part of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro’s effort to bring quality services closer to every Cebuano.

The mission recorded 22 major surgeries for hernia, gallstones, thyroid, and parotid cases, along with 32 minor procedures.

Eye surgeons performed 50 operations, broken down into 24 cataract and 26 pterygium surgeries. Dental teams served 185 patients, while optometry services provided free eyeglasses to 248 individuals.

Another 90 residents underwent blood sugar testing. HIV screening was also conducted in partnership with the VSMMC Kaambag Clinic.

In total, 627 beneficiaries received care.

The provincial government extends its sincere gratitude to all partners and stakeholders, including the University of Cebu Medical Center teams, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center specialists, Provincial Health Office personnel, and local leaders from the municipalities of San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, and Pilar, for their invaluable support.
