The Cebu Provincial Government provided free HIV testing and screening for breast and cervical cancer at the Capitol on March 27 as part of its National Women’s Month programs.

The initiative reinforces the province’s push to expand preventive healthcare services for women, focusing on early detection, timely intervention, and improved access to essential medical care at the community level.
The beneficiaries were members and officials of women’s groups from Cordova, Consolacion, and Daanbantayan who attended a women’s empowerment seminar at the Capitol.

“Early detection is very important gyod because prevention is better than cure. These diseases don’t have cure, but if we can detect them early, we can provide services para dili mograbe,” said Dr. Helen Madamba of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS).
She said medical personnel from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Visayas Medical Center joined the mission.

Meanwhile, Dr. Madamba noted that HIV cases are rising, at least 12 women die of cervical cancer daily, and breast cancer remains the leading cancer in the country in terms of incidence.
“It’s important that women in Cebu know how to take care of themselves because they take care of families, of communities. If they can’t take care of themselves, dako kaayo ang mawala sa community,” she said.

She also thanked Governor Pamela Baricuatro for a renewed push in vastly improving Cebu’s healthcare services after years of neglect.
“Magpasalamat gyud ko kang Governor Pam for being very supportive of healthcare. This is something that we have been waiting for a long time. We are willing to volunteer our services, our time, our effort, our expertise aron ang kababayen-an sa Sugbo dunay access to healthcare,” Dr. Madamba said. | CAPITOL PIO
