With the Holy Week exodus looming, the Cebu Provincial Government is determined to prevent a repeat of the long queues by ordering 24/7 operations, increasing police visibility, and providing free rides for vulnerable sectors.

During her regular press briefing on March 25, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro said she wanted to avoid the previous sight of passengers lining up 150 meters from the terminal, stretching as far as a nearby mall.

“Ang ako gyong instruction kang Ahmed (Cuizon) here is comfort of passengers. Make sure nga comfortable sila, make sure nga dili mag-antos. Pareha sauna nga ang linya moabot didto sa Emall. I want to avoid it,” Governor Baricuatro said.

The directive, addressed to Cuizon as the terminal administrator, covers both the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) and the Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT).

Security is also set to be bolstered. Gov. Baricuatro said she has coordinated with Police Regional Office-7 Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan for additional personnel, not only at bus terminals but also at seaports across the province.

Heeding the governor’s directive, Cuizon said the province will bring back “Libreng Sakay” (free rides) for the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Eight buses will be on standby—four per terminal—with additional units ready if needed.

To manage the anticipated passenger volume, the Capitol is also coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to issue special permits allowing bus operators to add trips for both northern and southern routes.

Furthermore, terminal staff will work round-the-clock throughout Holy Week.

“We augment the number of personnel sa terminals para mag-overtime during the Holy Week to ensure passengers’ needs are met adequately,” Cuizon said, adding that staff will pay close attention to the cleanliness of comfort rooms.

The governor has also asked city and municipal mayors to reactivate their traffic management units to help ensure smooth traffic flow within their jurisdictions.

Aside from transport services, the Capitol will provide free drinking water and set up medical stations. Ambulances and emergency responders will also be on standby.

To improve ventilation, additional electric fans have been installed at the CNBT, while the CSBT has been equipped with more air-conditioning and ventilation units.

The public is also urged to observe proper waste segregation at the terminals, in line with the province’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental compliance. | Capitol PIO
