To shield consumers from the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Gov. Pamela Baricuatro conducted unannounced inspections on Friday, March 20, at Colonnade supermarket branches in Mandaue City, Talisay City and Cebu City, as well as the Tabunok public market.

The governor, vowing to crack down on merchants exploiting the crisis through unjustified price hikes, surveyed the prices of basic commodities and essential goods, with a particular focus on the cost of rice.

During the inspection, Gov. Baricuatro engaged directly with vendors to verify the prices on shelves. She noted that rice was available in the market at P48 per kilo.

Baricuatro said.

The governor said the Department of Agriculture had relayed to her that Cebu has sufficient stocks.
