A world-class sports complex, envisioned to rise on a 20-hectare property in Cebu, has secured the backing of the provincial government.

Gov. Pamela Baricuatro threw her support behind the project on Wednesday, March 18, after a meeting with officials of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and MTD Philippines, the developer known for the New Clark City in Tarlac.
During the meeting, representatives from MTD Philippines presented the concept for the proposed International Sports Complex, envisioned to serve as a permanent, world-class training and competition venue for athletes in the Visayas.

The facility is intended to provide a dedicated training ground for both regional and national athletes, under the supervision of the Visayas Sports Academy.
MTD Philippines also pitched the complex as a dual-purpose development that would integrate a world-class Provincial Government Center, functioning as a satellite office of the Capitol.

Spanning approximately 20 hectares, the proposed complex will be built to international standards and is designed to host a wide range of sporting events, including athletics, football, aquatics, beach volleyball, and other multi-sport competitions.
It is also being eyed as a primary venue for the Philippines’ hosting of the 2028 Asian Beach Games.
Joining the discussion were PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio and Commissioner Edward Hayco. Gregorio signaled the PSC’s readiness to bankroll the project and is seeking Cebu’s partnership for a regional training center.

Gov. Baricuatro expressed her full support for the project, saying she is committed to further strengthen Cebu’s sports development programs and her vision of positioning the province as the Dancesport Capital of the country.
While the final location is still up in the air, Dumanjug Mayor Gungun Gica has already thrown his hat in the ring, offering to donate 30 hectares of land to the Province if the project lands in his town.I CAPITOL PIO
