At least 40 municipalities in Cebu have activated their Price Monitoring Councils according to Governor Pamela Baricuatro, citing a report from Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter.
The move is expected to strengthen local price oversight and ensure compliance with suggested retail prices (SRPs) for basic goods, amid concerns over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Governor Baricuatro said the provincial government, in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of Health, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources, will provide LGUs with updated SRPs for basic necessities and prime commodities every Thursday to guide local implementation.
“Hangyo lang unta kos mga retailers nga di lang ta magpalabi sa atong pagsaka sa presyo kay luoy sab atong katawhan,” the governor said during a regular press briefing at the Capitol on March 18.
She reiterated that Cebu has sufficient supply of rice and fuel in the coming months and assured the public there is no need for panic buying.
The governor also warned that the Capitol will take action against retailers found violating the Price Act through hoarding or profiteering, including possible cancellation of business permits or the filing of cases in court. |𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝒀𝑱𝑩
