Belgian Ambassador Vladislava Iordanova, together with other officials, paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Pamela Baricuatro on Tuesday, March 17, to discuss potential areas of collaboration between Cebu and European partners.
During the meeting, Ambassador Iordanova expressed openness to establishing a long-term partnership with the Province of Cebu, particularly in sharing best practices in waste management and water conservation, aimed at strengthening international relations and sustainable development efforts.
As a maritime nation, Belgium also signified its readiness to support initiatives in the transport sector. Gov. Baricuatro shared plans to develop community ports across Cebu, including the introduction of RoRo and passenger ferry systems to improve inter-island connectivity within the province.
The governor likewise sought possible cooperation for a feasibility study on proposed coastal highways, as well as the completion of the Metro Cebu Expressway, to which the Belgian delegation conveyed willingness to explore support through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.
Further areas of collaboration discussed include maritime, management, and technical or blue-collar training programs, along with environmental initiatives such as decarbonization and carbon capture technologies for sustainable fertilizer production.
