Cebuano actor and sportsman Paul Jake Castillo paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Pamela Baricuatro at the Capitol on Tuesday, March 17, signaling potential private-sector support for the province’s bid to revitalize its sports program and link it to tourism development.

The initiative aligns with the provincial government’s broader effort to strengthen sports as a driver of community engagement and economic activity, particularly through events that can attract both local and foreign participants.

Castillo was accompanied by his wife, actress Kaye Abad.

During the meeting, the revival of Cebu’s sports sector was emphasized, with Castillo telling the governor that with everything that is happening in Cebu, it has the opportunity to make sports a central area in its campaign for tourism attractions.

Gov. Baricuatro, for her part, expressed gratitude to Castillo’s support, and said he could further back the province by helping promote its various sports initiatives, including a fun run scheduled in August, with proceeds earmarked for the province’s anti-hunger initiatives.

The push to reinvigorate sports programs follows the governor’s issuance of Executive Order No. 45 in August last year, reconstituting the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC), which was originally created under Ordinance No. 2014-01.

Under the executive order, the CPSC is tasked to implement and sustain sports and physical fitness programs, projects, and activities across the province, in line with the policies of the Philippine Sports Commission and in pursuit of promoting the general welfare.

The commission is also mandated to promote and sustain grassroots sports development, implement an integrated physical fitness and amateur sports program, and organize provincial competitions and tournaments. | CAPITOL PIO
