As part of the celebration of National Women’s Month, the Cebu Provincial Government is holding a Women’s Empowerment Walk and Exhibit on Tuesday, March 17, at the Capitol grounds.

Organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the day-long event began with a Holy Mass, followed by an inspirational message from Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and a ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially opened the exhibit to the public.

In a heartfelt message that resonated deeply with attendees, Gov. Baricuatro reminded women of their inherent strength and resilience, acknowledging the silent struggles many endure daily.

The governor also shared a personal reflection on the weight of responsibilities that women carry.

“Usahay maka hunahuna ko, giunsa kaha nato pag-survive sa kadaghang ilabay sa kinabuhi nato,” Gov. Baricuatro said.

She offered a powerful reassurance to the women present, emphasizing that heroism is found in perseverance, not perfection.

“To all the women here today, always remember this: you do not have to be a superhero to make a difference,” Gov. Baricuatro said. “The courage to keep going, to keep trying, and to keep believing in yourself—that alone already makes you extraordinary.”

The governor candidly addressed the multifaceted pressures women face, often in silence.

“Because the truth is, being a woman is not always easy. Many women carry responsibilities quietly,” she said. “We take care of our families, support our communities, run businesses, pursue our dreams, and sometimes face criticism, judgment, and pressure along the way. Yet despite all of that, women continue to move forward with strength and grace.”

Testament of perseverance

Gov. Baricuatro pointed to the exhibit and bazaar at the Capitol grounds as a living testament to the perseverance of women who chose to stand up, to work hard, and to believe that they can create a better life for themselves and for their families.

She said that empowering women remains a top priority for her administration, as their success creates a ripple effect that strengthens families, communities and the entire province.

Importance of empowering women

“Empowering women is very important to me. Because when women succeed, families become stronger. Communities grow stronger. And the future of our province becomes brighter,” the governor said.

The exhibit, now on display at the front area of the Capitol grounds, showcases products and stories of women from across the province, highlighting their contributions to local economies and community development.

The event is part of a series of activities lined up by the Capitol for the month-long celebration of women’s achievements and advocacy for gender equality.
