President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the turnover of new, disaster-ready classrooms in Bogo City on Monday, aimed at keeping students in school following a powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked northern Cebu last year.

Joined by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, Bogo City Mayor Mayel Martinez, and Education Secretary Sonny Angara, President Marcos Jr. inspected the steel-framed units at Marcelo B. Fernan–Polambato Elementary School.
Called Learning Continuity Spaces (LCS), each classroom is equipped with solar power, internet connection for digital learning, and its own toilet. It can accommodate 40 students, with each unit costing around P1.65 million.
“Malaking tulong ang LCS upang matiyak na hindi napuputol ang pagkatuto ng ating mga mag-aaral kahit na apektado ng sakuna ang mga paaralan,” said Desheryl Cuyos, Master Teacher 1 at Bogo Central School.

Aside from Marcelo B. Fernan–Polambato Elementary School, Binabag Elementary School also received LCS units from the national government.

During the same visit, Marcos launched the YAKAP at Kalinga Caravan, a one-stop shop offering free health services for students, teachers, and their families. With at least seven doctors on site, the program provided consultations, laboratory tests, medicines and even PhilHealth registration assistance.

“Sa pagsasama ng edukasyon at kalusugan, mas napapalakas natin ang resilience ng ating mga komunidad at mas nagiging handa tayo sa ano mang hamon sa hinaharap,” Cuyos added.

In the afternoon, President Marcos Jr. personally witnessed the mass oath-taking of 3,325 newly promoted public school teachers and school heads from 44 municipalities in Cebu Province. The ceremony was held at the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) Convention Center in Cebu.

DepEd Secretary Angara administered the oath to the newly promoted educators. Among them are 57 teachers who are nearing retirement and have remained in the Teacher I position for over 30 years, highlighting the long-standing delays in career progression within the public education system.

Gov. Baricuatro, who also attended the event, reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, emphasizing that improving the quality of education remains a key priority of her administration.
“Long before policies are written and leaders are elected, it is teachers who plant the seeds of knowledge, discipline, and hope in the hearts of young Filipinos. That is why education and the welfare of our children and youth remain a priority for the Province of Cebu,” Gov. Baricuatro said.
The ceremony was part of the Department of Education’s Expanded Career Progression (ECP) System for Public School Teachers, which aims to promote around 100,000 teachers nationwide this year.

After the IEC activity, the President visited the eGovPH Serbisyo Hub in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, where he was joined by Mayor Jonkie Ouano and other city officials.
The eGovPH Serbisyo Hub serves as a one-stop facility that brings together various government agencies to streamline public services and transactions for citizens.
It functions as the physical extension of the eGovPH system, assisting individuals who prefer face-to-face processing while still benefiting from technology-enabled government services.I CAPITOL photos/FE
