The Provincial Government of Cebu continues to strengthen access to science education as eight schools in the province received STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS), the first digital science library developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The initiative, led by Governor Pamela Baricuatro in partnership with the DOST and the Department of Education (DepEd), aims to bridge the digital gap in education by providing access to thousands of science and technology resources that can be used even without internet connectivity – making it especially beneficial for schools in remote and low-connectivity areas.

STARBOOKS contains a vast collection of scientific journals, research materials, and educational content. It also features K-12 curriculum support materials where teachers can access ready-made quizzes, lesson guides, and instructional resources tailored to specific subjects.

The ceremonial turnover was held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol on Wednesday, March 11, attended by DepEd Cebu Province Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Senen Priscillo Paulin, DOST officials, as well as supervisors and principals of science high schools across the province.

The recipient schools include: Badian National High School, Minglanilla Science High School, Buanoy National High School in Balamban, Compostela National High School, Medellin National Science and Technology School, Bantayan Science High School, San Remigio National High School, and Luciano B. Rama Memorial National High School.

These schools were prioritized as they implement science-focused programs aimed at strengthening STEM education among students.

Meanwhile, Governor Baricuatro also shared plans for additional innovations in Cebu’s education sector, including the construction of smart classrooms and the establishment of a provincial sports complex and sports academy. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑱𝑳𝑷, 𝑭𝑬
