Gov. Pamela Baricuatro has thrown her full support behind the renewal of the legislative franchise of Visayan Electric Company (VECO), emphasizing the need to maintain reliable and affordable power distribution across Metro Cebu.

During a recent courtesy visit, VECO President Mark Anthony Kindica confirmed that the franchise extension has already secured approval from the House of Representatives.
He said the measure is now pending review before the Senate Committee on Public Services, which is chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo.

Gov. Baricuatro cited VECO’s swift mobilization during last year’s series of calamities as a key factor behind her support. She said the power utility’s quick response in restoring electricity in affected areas minimized disruption.
The franchise renewal, once passed, will allow VECO to continue its operations as the primary power distributor in Metro Cebu for another 25 years.
