DANAO CITY, Cebu — Hundreds of young campus journalists from across Central Visayas gathered in Danao City for this year’s Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), a key competition organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) that brings together the top student journalists in the region.

The Schools Press Conference is a DepEd-led competition that promote campus journalism, ethical writing, and responsible broadcasting among student journalists. Winners advance through each level of the competition — from the Division level to the Regional stage, and finally to the National Schools Press Conference.
Participants from elementary to senior high school competed in a wide range of categories that highlight the many disciplines of campus journalism, including news writing, feature writing, sports writing, copy editing, photojournalism, radio broadcasting, and other media-related contests.

The Province of Cebu expressed its support for the young communicators through a message from Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro, which was delivered on her behalf by Provincial Information Office (PIO) Head Ainjeliz de la Torre-Orong.
In her message, Governor Baricuatro congratulated the participants and emphasized the important role campus journalism plays in shaping responsible and courageous young leaders.

“Campus journalism plays a very important role in shaping the minds of young people. It teaches discipline, responsibility, and most importantly, the courage to speak the truth,” the governor said.
She also encouraged the young journalists to continue using their voices to tell stories that matter and to remain committed to responsible reporting in an age when information spreads rapidly.

“You are not only learning how to write stories — you are learning how to become voices of truth, fairness, and accountability,” she added.
The governor also reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s belief in the power of young people to help build a more informed and empowered society.
This year’s RSPC was hosted by the City Government of Danao, with Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III and Vice Mayor Ivy Durano leading the city’s preparations and extending full support to ensure the successful staging of the event, together with city officials and education partners.
