Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro led the blessing and inauguration of newly constructed comfort rooms at the Tan-awan Whale Shark Watching Briefing Center in the southern municipality of Oslob.
The improved and modernized restrooms, which also include shower rooms for visitors who wish to swim with the giant yet gentle whale sharks, align with the provincial government’s continuing efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure across Cebu.

“When tourists travel, one of the first things they look for are clean, safe, and accessible facilities. A clean comfort room reflects how well we care for our destination and how ready we are to welcome visitors,” the governor said in her speech.
Oslob has long been a favorite destination among tourists because of its whale shark watching activity, where visitors are given the opportunity to swim alongside the gentle giants during designated hours of the day.

Governor Baricuatro said improving even the most basic amenities in tourist areas is part of the provincial government’s broader tourism development agenda.
“That is why under our vision of ‘Ato ang Sugbo,’ we are pushing for better basic facilities in our tourist destinations across the province — including proper and well-maintained CRs,” Governor Baricuatro said.

She added that ensuring high-quality basic services is essential in delivering a world-class tourism experience for visitors.
“Kay ang tinuod, world-class tourism should also mean world-class basic services,” she said.

The governor also expressed her appreciation to Oslob Mayor Ronald Guaren, along with the town’s officials and residents, for their continued efforts in protecting and promoting the whale shark watching attraction, which has become one of Cebu’s most recognized tourism draws. Cebu Provincial Tourism Officer Rowena Montecillo also attended the activity.

She encouraged the community to remain committed to protecting Cebu’s tourism assets and the environment to ensure sustainable opportunities for local communities.
The Tan-awan Whale Shark Watching site remains one of Cebu’s most visited marine attractions, drawing thousands of local and foreign tourists each year and providing livelihood opportunities for residents of Oslob. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬
