Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro accepted a new ambulance unit donated by a Japanese cement firm during a turnover ceremony at the Capitol grounds on Wednesday, March 4.

The donation from Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, a cement company operating in San Fernando, Cebu, in coordination with the Consulate General of Japan, marks the latest chapter in a long-standing partnership aimed at reinforcing Cebu’s disaster resilience.

“This is more than a vehicle — it represents hope, faster response, and improved healthcare services for our people, especially during emergencies,” Baricuatro said.

A symbolic turnover of a check worth P3 million, which was received by the Capitol last year from Taiheiyo was also conducted during the ceremony. The ₱3 million check was earmarked for continued rehabilitation efforts following the devastation of Typhoon Tino, which struck the province on Nov. 4, 2025.

“Your continued support shows that this partnership is not just symbolic — it is consistent and meaningful,” Baricuatro said.

The governor said that strengthening healthcare infrastructure has been a cornerstone of her administration and that the donated ambulance will form part of her broader initiative to ensure that “no Cebuano should be left behind” regarding medical assistance, regardless of their proximity to the provincial center.

Taiheiyo Cement Philippines President and CEO Takashi Miyashita said the company is “honored to support and help the people of Cebu recover” by providing the needed assistance.

“With this new ambulance, we are strengthening the Province’s capacity to respond swiftly during emergencies, disasters, and health crises. Most importantly, we are giving the Cebuano people the assurance that in times of danger or distress, help will always be within reach,” he said.

Consul General of Japan in Cebu Yudai Ueno, who also graced the event, said Taiheiyo’s donations reflect its strong commitment to the welfare of the Cebuano community.
