At least 70 micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) gathered at the Capitol Social Hall on Monday, March 2, 2026, for the “Tatak Pinoy MSMEs” Upscaling Workshop aimed at strengthening their capabilities in online marketing and digital selling.

The workshop was conducted by Shopee, one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia, in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to equip local entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to compete in the fast-growing digital marketplace.

Atty. Choi Petrache, public affairs officer of Sea Limited, the holding company of Shopee, said the workshop was specifically designed to help MSMEs transition into the e-commerce industry and expand the reach of their products beyond traditional brick-and-mortar markets.

Petrache said the training responds to the evolving behavior of consumers, many of whom now prefer online transactions for convenience and accessibility. By guiding entrepreneurs through the basics of online selling, digital promotions, and platform optimization, the program aims to make Cebuano MSMEs more competitive and future-ready.

“Kung ang buyers nag-migrate na to online, sana po madaming sellers pa ang makapag-migrate na rin online,” Petrache said, emphasizing the need for sellers to adapt to the digital shift.

Kristine Ann Muyargas, DTI Cebu information officer, said the agency fully supports the initiative as it aligns with one of its key pillars—digitalization—being advanced by Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque. She noted that helping MSMEs embrace digital platforms is a strategic priority in boosting their productivity, resilience, and long-term growth.

Meanwhile, Marlene Cinco-Caballes, communications officer of Sea Limited, said the partnership also complemented the national digitalization agenda of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration. She added that the company recognized strong support from the provincial government in promoting MSME development.

“We found out that si Governor Pam is very supportive of MSMEs. And ang next growth lang naman talaga for MSMEs is to go online,” she said.

Through initiatives like the Tatak Pinoy MSMEs Upscaling Workshop, the organizers hope to empower more local entrepreneurs to harness digital platforms, broaden their customer base, and sustain growth in an increasingly technology-driven economy. | CAPITOL PIO, Photos by YJB
