Gov. Pam Reaffirms Cebu-Japan Ties, Announces Official Visit to Japan

Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro joined the Consulate-General of Japan in Cebu on Friday, Feb. 20, in celebrating Japan’s National Day Reception and the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.


The event was hosted by Consul-General Yudai Ueno and attended by local officials including Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, members of the diplomatic community and business leaders, underscoring the enduring ties between Cebu and Japan.

In her message, Gov. Baricuatro expressed appreciation for Japan’s long-standing support and contributions to Cebu, particularly in technology, health care, disaster resilience and economic innovation.

“It is such a pleasure to be here tonight as we celebrate Japan’s National Day and the beautiful friendship between Japan and Cebu,” she said.


Gov. Baricuatro described Japan as a trusted partner and a model of discipline, efficiency and community-centered development, adding that Cebu continues to look to Japan for best practices as the province grows and evolves.

She also announced that she will travel to Japan this week for a series of official engagements focused on health, disaster preparedness, trade and economic cooperation.


“I am excited to learn more, strengthen our connections, and bring home valuable insights that can benefit our people,” she said, adding that Cebu remains open to Japanese partners and investors seeking opportunities grounded in transparency, stability and long-term collaboration.

Gov. Baricuatro also shared her anticipation of experiencing Japan’s culture and cuisine during her visit.

“Tonight, let us celebrate not only Japan’s National Day, but the strong and growing friendship between us and our people,” she said. “May our partnership continue to flourish for many years to come.”
