In a bid to reinforce the importance of preventive healthcare among the youth, Capitol Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan graced the local celebration of National Oral Health Month at Tuyan Central Elementary School earlier today.

The event highlighted the ongoing advocacy of the “Isang Milyong Sipilyo, Angat Ngiting Pilipino” program, a joint initiative of Colgate and the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) that has been promoting dental hygiene awareness since 1994.
Speaking on behalf of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, Dr. Catalan said that oral health is a critical, yet often overlooked, component of general health.

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Dr. Catalan explained why oral health matters, saying it prevents long-term disease and complications, as poor dental hygiene is directly linked to serious conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and infections.
By reaching children early, Dr. Catalan said, the program aims to build lifelong healthy habits that will ultimately reduce future medical costs for families and the healthcare system.

Dr. Catalan congratulated Mayor Valdemar “Val” Chiong, Councilor Junji Cruz, City Health Dentist Dr. Ethel Gloria Uy, the faculty of Tuyan Central Elementary School, the Philippine Dental Association, Colgate, and all partners for championing preventive health for the children.
“Healthy smiles today. Healthier Cebu tomorrow,” Dr. Catalan said.
