More foreign partners are showing interest in helping Cebu address its growing waste disposal challenges.
In the latest development, a delegation from Yokohama City presented to Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival a set of “proven, safe, and reliable waste management solutions currently implemented in the Japanese city.”

According to data shared during the presentation at the Capitol on February 16, these measures implemented in Yokohama have reduced the volume of waste reaching landfills by as much as 43.2 percent.
Toru Hashimoto, president of Y‑Bridge and consultant to the Yokohama City government, together with Hiroyuki Fujisaki, general manager of JFE Engineering, discussed with Cebu officials Japan’s comprehensive and systematic approaches to waste management, including stricter and more disciplined waste segregation practices.

Also present was Evelyn Castro, assistant regional director of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Region 7, who said that Cebu’s ongoing initiatives are aligned with national development policies and planning frameworks.
Governor Baricuatro said Cebu is prepared to partner with capable solution providers following due evaluation and compliance with proper procedures, including the possibility of public-private partnerships.
