Seventeen patients underwent successful surgical procedures on the first day of the West Coast Surgical Mission at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in this city (CPH–Carcar) on February 9, according to an update shared by Dr. Nikki Catalan.

Dr. Catalan, the Capitol’s Piso Public Health Consultant, said the surgeries covered a range of medical needs, including five gynecologic cases, four thyroid procedures, two hernia repairs, two hemorrhoid operations, two cyst removals, one fistula surgery, and one tonsil operation.

Alongside the surgical services, 130 individuals received HIV testing through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) Kaambag Clinic, expanding access to preventive healthcare during the outreach.

Despite long hours in the operating room, the visiting surgical team shared a light moment as they sampled local banana cue, which was warmly received by the group.

The ongoing surgical mission, which is slated for four days or until February 12, is made possible through the partnership of VSMMC, the West Coast Surgical Mission Society, and Healthway Cebu Velez General Hospital.

“With gratitude to our surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support teams. Thank you for the tireless work, steady hands, and shared commitment to patient care,” Dr. Catalan added in her post. | CAPITOL PIO
