Doctors, nurses, and support staff from the West Coast Surgical Mission Society have arrived at the Capitol-run Cebu Provincial Hospital in this city (CPH-Carcar) to take part in a four-day surgical and medical mission.

They are joined by medical personnel from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Healthway Cebu Velez General Hospital in delivering much-needed medical and surgical services to Cebuanos.
According to the organization’s website, around 30 personnel from the West Coast Surgical Mission Society have signed up for the mission at CPH-Carcar, which begins today, February 9, and runs until February 12.

The team is fully prepared to handle general surgery cases, including hernia, thyroid, and gallstones, as well as gynecologic procedures, said Dr. Nikki Catalan, the Capitol’s Piso Public Health Consultant.
“Deeply grateful, as always, to our volunteer surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, hospital teams, and partners for giving their time, skill, and heart in service of our patients. Thank you for making this possible,” Dr. Catalan said in a Facebook post.

Dr. Catalan added that while the Provincial Government, under the administration of Governor Pamela Baricuatro, continues to pursue long-term improvements in Cebu’s healthcare system, medical and surgical missions remain vital stop-gap measures to address case backlogs and provide immediate relief to patients through partnerships with government agencies and the private sector. photos/ASC
