The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) Inmates received dental services from private dentists last August 15.
Acting Jail Warden Romeo “Bobby” Manansala said 300 inmates availed of the one-day dental mission.
The services included tooth extraction, pasta and cleaning conducted by the five members of Cebu Dental Society in coordination with Juanito King Foundation who provided the mobile dental clinic.
Manansala said the 300 inmates were also fortunate as they also received assorted goods from activity partner GMA Kapuso Foundation. The goods such as sardines, noodles, coffee and clothing were distributed after the tooth extraction.
Manansala believes this was the first time that a dental mission was conducted in the facility with the help of the private sector.
The participation of the private sector was the brainchild of Lilibeth Concha, Dentist II of the Province of Cebu, who was just assigned to CPDRC last March.
Concha also stated that they could not have done the massive dental mission without the private sector because the Capitol currently lacked supplies.
Aside from the services, they also solicited anesthesia, needles, anti-hemorrhagic agent, and antibiotics needed for tooth extractions from their partners.
The inmates were also very happy with the dental mission especially those suffering from toothaches.
Liover Kapison of Consolacion town, who was transferred to the facility only last March, said he did not even expect to have a dentist inside the facility.
