Golf tourism will soon be the next attraction in the Province of Cebu.
This plan was put forward after Gov. Gwen Garcia met with golf tourism stakeholders, led by Department of Tourism (DOT) Usec. Ferdinand Jumapao and DOT Golf Tourism Director Lyle Fernandez Uy yesterday, December 5.
Recently, DOT, under the leadership of Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco inaugurated the Philippine Golf Tourism Summit in Taguig which aims to promote and develop golf tourism as a new tourism product of the country.
Gov. Garcia welcomed the agency’s plans to promote golf tourism industry in Cebu, as there are also world-class golf courses in the province such as those found in the towns of Liloan and Medellin.
She even suggested that it would be good if golf tourism were incorporated with the Capitol’s Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Experience.
“We could incorporate the Suroy-Suroy, you know, into the golf tourism. I always say that the Suroy-Suroy is a feast for the five senses, but most importantly, a feast for your soul,” Gov. Garcia said.
The DOT officials welcomed the governor’s suggestion, as they also see that the Suroy-Suroy Experience will help the golf tourism get off the ground in Cebu, helping entice local and international players of the game.
“It changes my perception of how I want to engage in promoting golf tourism for the Philippines. Right now, we are thinking of conceptualizing, combining the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo with our proposal to the Secretary [Frasco] and the Governor for the promotion of golf tourism,” Director Uy told Sugbo News. | Babie Jane Revecoy
