The new set of officers of the Cebu Tourism Officers Association (CTOA) were recently inducted into office by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale. Magpale also chairs the Provincial Board’s Committee on Tourism and International Affairs and Women, Family and Minors.
Jocelyn Celeste Tan, Bogo City’s Tourism Officer, is the group’s president. Other officers are Trinidad S. Bubuli (Toledo City), Vice President; Ceres Melodina O. Lozano (Balamban), Secretary General; Jocelyn Tawil (Poro), Treasurer and Eva K. Rallos (Asturias) as Auditor. Board of Directors are Manny Gumban (Carmen), PRO; and, Geneva Enad (San Fernando), Jesusa Estaño (Santander), Asuncion Palmitos (Moalboal), Arnel Lumapas (Tuburan), Ma. Alejandrina P. Romo (Daanbantayan), Meynard Concha (Catmon) and Brenda Enrile (Cordova).
In her remarks after the induction, Magpale stressed the significant role of CTOA in the now institutionalized Suroy Suroy Sugbo program of the province. The program, which was closely identified with the former governor, was actually conceptualized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
To push the tourism industry in the province, Magpale said that roads will be paved to reach more destinations in the local government units. Spelunking or cave exploration will also be added to the activities in the Suroy Suroy itinerary.
The province will find ways to accommodate members of the CTOA in future Suroy Suroy Sugbo outings with lesser expense on their respective LGUs. Magpale also encouraged the group to replicate in their localities Aloguinsan’s community-based tourism program that takes care of the Buho River. Roger Serna
