More than a hundred job seekers landed on a job in the local jobs fair held recently at the Cebu Capitol Social Hall.

These 122 individuals were hired on the spot by 13 companies which include a leading fashion outfit, an industrial company of computer parts, top department stores, a biscuit factory, a cooperative, cellphone retailers and a supermarket.

The Cebu Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) happily reported to Governor Hilario P. Davide III the successful turn out of applicants looking for employment in the said jobs fair.

About 1700 applicants registered for the 2nd local jobs fair held this year vying for a slot in about 3,250 job openings posted by 35 companies.

Other companies conducted examinations for potential applicants.

Dr. Mathea M. Baguia, consultant on employment services, said PESO has been working on improving the jobs fair to draw in more Cebuanos.

Apart from job hiring, jobs fair events also serve as one-stop shop designed to answer immediate needs of applicants, she said.

Various national government agencies such as NBI, Provincial Prosecutor, PhilHealth, LTO, PRC, SSS and Philippine Statistics Authority also offer their services to the applicants.

The Capitol medical team from the Provincial Health Office was also on standby for those who want their blood pressure checked.

PESO will hold an overseas job fair on October 16 at the Capitol Social Hall. (Fides Palicte)
