Task force seizes dynamited fish

Half a million worth of dynamited fishes on board an elf truck were seized in Mandaue City at around 1:30 am yesterday. The truck was on its way to Pasil, Cebu City when intercepted near Cebu International Convention Center.

According to Joebert Sorsano of Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFTF), the truck contained 30 tubs of first class fishes. Each tub weighed 60 kilos .

Most fishes weighed around 20 kilos each, allegedly coming from neighboring islands of Mindanao, he added. Some of the fishes were lapu-lapu, rompi, mam-sa, pakol, and bagis.

Wednesday evening, CPAIFTF received a tip about illegal transportation of dynamited fishes in the area, stated task force’s spot report.

A market denial was then conducted by CPAIFTF with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, maritime police and provincial agriculture along Tribunal Street in Mandaue City for “possible route and apprehension of reported subject.”

As approved by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, the confiscated fishes will be sent to various charitable institutions, such as Missionaries of Charity and Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, among others.
