Panagsogod means “the beginning” in the Cebuano-Visayan language. It is a celebration of Sogod’s history and a thanksgiving to the municipality’s patron saint, St. James the Apostle.
Panagsogod Festival affirms the blessings and bounty of the town, feting the Sogoranons’cultural heritage and tradition, creativity, talents, products, and tourist destinations.
It is also the time of merriment for the people of Sogod.
Over the past seven years, the Panagsogod Festival has become famous and it continues to be one of the major attractions in the Province of Cebu.
“Sogod Nata, Sayaw Sayaw Nata, Lingaw Lingaw Nata, Pasalamat Nata Sa Ginoo” was the theme for this year’s Panagsogod Festival.
Held last July 25, 2014 at Sogod Sports Plaza, five contingents vied for the top prizes. Pundok sa Nagkahiusang Kabataang Kyut, Nagkahiusang Sogoranon, Tribu Busilak, Lumadnon Sogoranon, and Tribu Paniki showcased their talents to the delight of the crowd.
The festival opened with street dancing, passing through the town’s main street and ending up at the Sogod Sports Plaza for the ritual showdown.
Tribu Paniki was selected Grand Champion while Nagkahiusang Sogoranon and Tribu Busilak placed second and third, respectively.
The municipality of Sogod is known as the borderline of the black and white sand beaches in the northern part of Cebu.
It is also famous for its ecotourism sites, amidst of the breathtaking view of the municipality.
Alegre Beach Resort is a tourist destination with its pristine white sand beach and turquoise waters. Other resorts in the town include Tabunok Garden View Resort and Northsky Beach Resort.
Bagatayam Spring known for its fresh and miraculous water is also the source of water in the place.
