Quake drill preps getting better – Tolentino

| by: admin

In celebration of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month, the Cebu Provincial Government led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) participated in the recently held Metro Wide Earthquake Drill.

The drill, with the theme “Shake, Rattle, and Role”, is intended to promote readiness of employees of the Cebu Provincial Government and to enhance their level of awareness before, during, and after disasters.

Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino said that preparations are getting better compared to the previous drills. Last month, Capitol conducted a surprise earthquake drill in participation to the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.

“Everybody seems to be more familiar already with their roles in case of an eventuality,” Tolentino added.

Employees from the different offices of Capitol participated in the said drill but some were observed not serious in doing safety measures if disaster might happen.

Employees’ responsiveness was rated seven and a half out of ten, Tolentino opined.

“We will be training responders from Capitol itself coming from the different offices,” said PDRRMO Training Officer Rhafael Luche.

Luche added that they will not only train employees on first-aid but also the management and department heads on incident command system.

Other search and rescue emergency responders present during the drill include Office of the Civil Defense 7, Bureau of Fire Protection 7, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, Federation of Volunteers thru Radio Communication, and the Philippine National Red Cross.
