Prison raid seizes gadgets, spiders; no drugs – Toral
A raid in Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) on Monday confiscated several gadgets and equipment but there were no traces of illegal drugs, said CPDRC consultant Marco Toral.
“We received a tip from a group of inmates that drugs were hidden in cell 16. We did the inspection around 10:30 this morning,” he shared.
He added that jail guards inspected cell 16 of the prison facility and took away eight cellular phones, one portable DVD player, one projector, one car battery, one improvised electric stove, and two tarantulas.
Meanwhile, Toral revealed they conducted a separate raid in 119 cells earlier this month where three thousand inmates were ordered to leave their respective cells. The inspection compounded three sacks of contrabands.
Toral added that facility’s security has been heightened and currently, they are training additional 14 new jail guards.
CPDRC has 86 jail guards and over three thousand inmates. The guard to inmate ratio is 1:30.
Governor Hilario P. Davide III assured to decongest the facility by building another prison. He is the new chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council 7. (Katrina Marie Diaz)
