PNP opens Cebu satellite office for firearms licensing, registration

Residents of Cebu and nearby provinces no longer need to travel to Camp Crame in Manila to secure their License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) and register their firearms.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group (CSG) and Firearms Explosive Office (FEO) opened its satellite office in Cebu last May 5.

The satellite office is located at the Police Regional Office headquarters, R Landon St., Cebu City.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III graced the ribbon cutting and turn-over of Information technology (IT) equipment to CSG Director Police Director Melito Mabilin.

The governor was thankful for the project, saying that there had been a clamor three years ago to localize the licensing and registration of firearms.

Davide, who donated the IT equipment worth Php 1.2 million, said the new office will make the application of LTOPF and firearms registration “more efficient and faster.”

Severo Tuason, chairman of Arms Corporation of the Philippines, said the licensing processes will also be convenient and less expensive for the sellers and gun owners.

“Registering your guns takes a lot of money if it will be done in Manila. You have to pay for your food and hotel because with the huge number of applicants this cannot be done in one day,” he said.

With the new office, the processing may only take 10 to 15 minutes.

Mabilin said the Cebu satellite office is the third CSG FEO office outside Camp Crame. The other offices are located in Marikina City and Davao City.

Prior to the opening of the satellite office, a consultative meeting on streamlining of LTOPF was held.

This is in connection with the queries concerning the requirements for the application of LTOPF and firearms registration pursuant to RA 10591 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
