One of the highlights of Sinulog Festival Celebration was the search for the Sinulog Festival Queen. The contest boasted of a night of talent, grace, beauty and grandeur as the lead dancers from different contingents of the Grand Parade competed against each other for the prestigious title.
The countdown to the exciting event ended with a bang on January 18, 2013 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Jamie Herrell, who represented Tribu Himag-Ulaw of Placer, Masbate won the crown as this year’s Sinulog Festival Queen. Her awe-inspiring performance amazed the crowd, assuring her place as the Best Solo Performer of the night.
This was only Herrell’s 2nd time to dance the Sinulog as part of the contingent. By a stroke of genius and perhaps a little bit of luck, she was chosen to be the lead dancer of Tribu Himag-Ulaw this year and, boy, did she lead. Her group went on to bag awards for Best in Opening Production number and Best in Group Performance.
When asked what advice she could give for those aspiring to be the next Sinulog Festival Queen, she said, “It is a great privilege to be chosen as lead dancer not just because you’re competing for the Sinulog Festival Queen contest but let’s not forget it’s all about the Sto. Niño.It’s all about praising Him.” (Hearty Marie Rizarri)
