A combined team from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force confiscated some 180 buckets of assorted fish from two fishing boats in the waters off Madridejos the other day.
The two fishing vessels marked ‘Seanne’ and ‘Mark Hope’ are reportedly owned by a resident of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. The first vessel was loaded with 170 buckets of fish while the other had ten buckets which is estimated to cost around a half million pesos. The two vessels had a crew of 15 persons aboard.
The illegal activities were spotted by the apprehending group lead by Provincial Chief Security Officer Loy Madrigal, while conducting the unlawful fishing not far from the island of Tangginggi, Madridejos. The two boats with prohibited fishing gear were caught less than 15 kms. from the municipal waters which was also violating the anti-illegal fishing law.
The seized buckets of fish were then brought to the municipalities of Daanbantayan and San Remegio and in the city of Bogo where the patients of these hospitals have benefited from the confiscated fish.
Appropriate complaints will be filed against the violators in case they fail to settle the offense they have committed. The vessels are temporarily grounded at the town of San Remegio. (Ramon Gallardo)
