PENRO intensifies ops vs illegal haulers

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a surprise inspection in river networks of Balamban-Asturias interiors last August 19 for illegal quarry operators allegedly frequenting the area.

Seven (7) loaded trucks and a back hoe were captured after seen extracting sand and gravel in the river basin.

Inspection team leader Engr. Azmir Garcia of PENRO’s Mines and Geosciences Division said all trucks failed to present its delivery receipt, a document that shows the legality of transporting and extracting materials.

The team temporarily seized the loaded materials and accompanied the trucks to Asturias police station.

“We issued temporary seizure to the loaded materials and the trucks will be impounded waiting for further investigation,” said Garcia.

“The Provincial Legal Office will determine if they will be fined administratively for P10,000 or will be subject for Theft of Materials,” he added. (Chad Bacolod)
