PDRRMO holds leadership training

The Province of Cebu, together with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Young Minds Academy (YMA) presented Disaster Risk Reduction training to the youth from various universities.

Young leaders from University of San Carlos (USC), University of the Visayas (UV), Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U), Cebu Normal University (CNU), University of San Jose-Recolertos (USJR) and from parts of Cordova and Consolacion attended the said training.

The training outlined the 2013 activities implemented by the government such as Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and its 2016 plans for the youth.

“Ang ato aim nga Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon, daghan pa ta’g buhatonon,” said Rhee Telen of PDRRMO with regards to the preparedness of the office for the upcoming La Niña.

With its theme “We Grow Leaders and Develop Champions To Build Resilient Communities,” Telen challenged the youth to be keen observers.

“Young people, you have the energy, the talent and the intelligence,” asserted Baltazar S. Tribunalo, Head of PDRRMO.

“Wala kita’y gidapigan, ato gayud kana gi deliveran sa services. Ato gayud na giklaro nga non-political ta,” clarified Tribunalo when asked on how they would manage political intervention in the implementation of their programs.

Tribunalo also said that they need young people to question not just the parents, the teachers but especially the government.

“The government kay dako ug nabuhat, we may not see it with our naked eyes but through its impact,” said Glenberth Tolentino, a student leader from CIT-U.

The hour-long training wraps up to its purpose of leading the youth to be role models of the community.  (CNU intern Icy Remolino)
