Palarong Panlalawigan ’14 sets off

DSC_6586The Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival 2014 (Palarong Panlalawigan) was formally opened by Governor Hilario P. Davide III in Argao, Cebu. This year’s Palarong Panlalawigan has 10, 133 participants fromthe 42 municipalities of Cebu Province. The PalarongPanlalawigan 2014 has a theme “ Sa Paugnat sa Kusog og Bahandianong Kultura, Sugbo, I Pasigarbo Ka”.

Together with his wife Jobel, Governor Hilario P. Davide III led the opening ceremony of the five (5)-day Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival. Several local chief executives also attended the event to show support to their athletes. Provincial Board Members Hon. Gigi Sanchez of the 3rd district, Hon. Peter Calderon and Hon. Dong Baricuatro of the 2nd district, were present to grace the jump off ceremony of the sports meet.

The Municipality of Argao hosts this year’s PanlarongPanlalawigan together with adjacent towns of Dalaguete, Sibonga and Alcoy as co-hosts.

The Municipality of Balamban has the biggest delegation with 682 athletes.

In his message before the delegates, Governor Davide expressed his admiration to the athletes. “This is a wonderful opportunity to share experience, share knowledge, and find new friends”, the Governor said. “Ang pagapil og pagsalmot ninyu, kadaogan na daan”, Davide added.

Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Arden Monisit, warmly welcomed the delegates and expressed his gratitude that after several postponements due to natural calamities finally the Palarong Panlalawigan has been realized.

Mayor EdselGaleos of the Municipality of Argao said that he is proud and happy that Argao gets to host the Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival 2014.

“Garbo og dakung dungog na mungani bisita kamo sa Argao” Galeos said.

The Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival 2014 has 18 sports events. In addition to the different sports events, Palarong Panlalawigan will also feature drum and bugle corps competition, vocal solo and duet competitions, folk dance and dance palabas competitions, and the search for festival queen 2013-2014.
