Over 3k residents gain from medical mission in Lawaan, Alcantara

IMG_1202About three thousand patients availed of free medical and dental services during the medical mission held last February 28 in Barangay Lawaan, Municipality of Alcantara.

The medical mission, spearheaded by Cebu Provincial Board Members Peter John Calderon and Christopher Baricuatro, is part of the provincial government’s thrust to strengthen health programs.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), which headed the activity also distributed medicines and vitamins for the patients who were mostly composed of senior citizens and differently abled persons.

Food packs,which contained 3 kilos of rice, sardines and noodles were likewise distributed to all patients.

Andres Timtim, chairman of the village, said he appreciated the move of the provincial government to conduct a medical mission in the mountain barangays instead of the Poblacion as it helped most of his constituents.

“Nagpa salamat gyud mi nga nahitabo kining medical mission kay dako kini ug tabang sa mga tao hilabi na sa mga nagpuyo sa bukid. Makapa-check up gyud sila.”  (We are grateful to have this activity this is really a big help for the people especially those living in the mountain barangays. They can finally have a medical check-up), he stated.

With the realization of the activity,Brgy. Captain Timtimalso extended his appreciation to Governor Hilario “Jun Jun” Davide III.

Meanwhile, SP Calderon, the chairperson of the Committee on Public Health and Social Welfare intends to continue conducting monthly medical missions in the mountain barangays in the 2nd district.

“Ato jud ni giplano nga ari ang medical mission sa bukid kay sa among tan-aw mao man gud ang nagkinahanglan ug tabang, labi na ang mga senior citizen ug differently abled persons. At least they can have regular medical check-up. Kay kung anha sa lungsod o Poblacion naa na may RHU…” Calderon said.

Calderon also stressed that he coordinated with Governor Davide in their aim to improve health and medical services of municipal hospitals and clinics.He likewise encourages Rural Health Units (RHU), through the Provincial Health Office (PHO),to be active in joiningpublic health programs, such as vaccination, pre-natal care, etc.which is usually conducted by the Department of Health (DOH).

On the other hand, SP Baricuatro acknowledged all barangay officials and barangay health workers for their cooperation and support.

“Nalipay gyud mi kay grabe ang support sa mga barangay officials diri ug daghan kaayong mga senior citizens as far as from poblacion nga ni sa ka diri sa Brgy. Lawaan, bisan init, nipila jud ni sila para makadawat ug mga mahalipay gikan sa Probinsya sa Sugbo,” Baricuatro stated.
