“Since napakalaki ng potential ng lugar for tourism, so lalakihan natin ang submission ng gine-generate na kuryente natin in the area,” said Santa Rita.
Governor Hilario P. Davide III welcomed the assurance of Santa Rita, who met him and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale at the Capitol last February 13.
He said reliable power in Camotes Island is very important because it is a known tourist destination.
The governor added that the NPC is considering sending its power barge to Camotes to augment its power supply.
During the meeting, Vice Governor Magpale opened up about the delicate power situation in Camotes Island.
She said she heard that a lot of investors want to put up resorts in the island but its low power reserves turns them off.
The NPC’s diesel plant in the mainland Camotes only generates two (2) megawatts. The other plant in Pilar town only produces over 600 kilowatts. Surviving typhoon Yolanda, the plants are already operational but Camotes Electric Company is still fixing the distribution lines.
Santa Rita said she was in Cebu to visit the areas covered by the mandate of her office. NPC is an agency in-charge of Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) in missionary areas like the islands of Bantayan and Camotes. PIO Cebu
